副词在句子中主要用作状语，但是英语中某些表示时间或地点的副词以及某些与介词同形的副词，有时也可用作某些介词的宾语。如：
Do you mind my opening the window? It's a bit hot in here. 你介意我打开窗户吗？这里有点热。
Take your time—it's just a short distance from here to the restaurant. 别急，从这儿到那家餐馆只是很短的距离。
二、某些副词用作后置定语
副词虽然不用于名词前作定语，但某些表示时间或地点的副词可用于名词后作定语。如：
The lady downstairs has asked lira to be quiet after nine o'clock. 楼下那位女士要求我们9点以后保持安静。（downstairs修饰the lady）
He wanted the best for his children—good schools, a nice house and trips abroad. 他想让自己的孩子享受到最好的一切——上好学校，住漂亮房子，还去国外旅行。（abroad修饰trips）
